The fundamental purpose of yoga
Yoga can appear to be primarily focused on physical activity. The different yoga poses help develop the physical body, by testing the muscles and making people stronger. It can also loosen the muscles to make you more flexible.

All of these physical benefits are only one aspect of yoga. They are integral to the wider picture, yet they are only one part of a beautiful painting. In order to admire the beauty of yoga, you must view it in its entirety.

The word yoga itself means "union": of the individual consciousness or soul with the universal consciousness or spirit. We are currently living in an environment that accustoms us to the notion that “outer attainments can give us what we want”. So, people are repeatedly searching for a new material to satisfy themselves with ... often failing. Yoga is about searching within.

Though many people think of yoga as physical exercises, the poses are actually just one aspect of this profound science. Unfolding the infinite potential of your human mind and soul is the main foundation of yoga.

Yoga aims to achieve a state of complete calmness and repose, which frees us from constant thoughts and feelings. Yoga is also used to break the limitations that surround us to a certain identity, or life story. This is yoga.

“If it’s morning, you’re a morning person. If it’s evening you’re a evening person. If you’re not required to be a person, you’re not a person.” Sadghuru

Most humans struggle to follow this principle without guidance. Humans are easily caught up in “doing rather than being, in action rather than awareness”. By practising yoga, it allows you to erode this shell of constant thought and emotional limitations.

“Your physical structure, your psychological structure, your emotional structure, your karmic structure, everything should become flexible, that it can be whatever it is required to be.” Sadghuru
