International Yoga Day 201719th June 2017
The annual event takes place this Wednesday, 21st June, and will see special Yoga events, workshops, classes and retreats being hosted worldwide for anyone to enjoy.
This the third International Yoga Day since it's creation in 2014 following the recommendation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It has taken place each year since on the same day as the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year.
In his address to the U.N, Mr Modi said;“Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and actions; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between a man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being”.

The theme of the 2017 IYD is 'Yoga For Health'. This theme was chose to 'highlight the fact that yoga can contribute in a holistic way to achieving equilibrium between mind and body.'.
Yoga instructors and Yoga Studios worldwide will be hosting special events to encourage more people to learn and try yoga.
Many yoga events will be taking place around the UK, as well of the thousands of yoga classes that take place weekly. These include events such as:
- Free yoga classes
- Community yoga events in parks, gardens, beaches and more
- Public yoga demonstrations
- Yoga discussions, lectures and seminars.
- Healing programmes
- Stress management advice
- Meet and greets with famous yoga practitioners
It is expected that thousands of people will attend the events and they present a great opportunity for more people to try Yoga.
